Pasture.io

Pasture.io review by Eric Grim of Ohio, USA

Practical pasture decisions for farms that need clear, reliable information.

How Pasture.io helps Eric Grim choose the right pasture on his Ohio dairy farm

Eric has practised Management Intensive Grazing since 1988. On his certified organic, grass-fed dairy farm, keeping up with pasture measurements was a challenge. Since starting with Pasture.io in April 2026, he has used its measurements to help choose pasture for the herd and entered data almost every day to build a baseline for future decisions.

Customer story

Adding measurements to experience

Eric has managed his dairy herd with Management Intensive Grazing for decades. For much of that time, visual observation was his main guide, including judging whether the cows appeared full. He describes the results as variable.

He used a rising plate meter periodically, then bought a digital plate meter in 2025 and began measuring more often. Keeping the measurements up to date remained difficult.

Eric first heard about Pasture.io through a YouTube ad in 2025. He looked into it but did not take it up at that stage. When the Dairy Grazing Alliance introduced a program that included Pasture.io in 2026, he took the opportunity to participate.

Choosing pasture for the herd

Eric began using Pasture.io in April 2026. He is still learning what it offers and enters data almost every day, with the aim of building a useful baseline for the years ahead.

For now, its measurements are helping with a practical grazing decision: choosing pasture for the herd at the right time.

“Pasture.io measurements help us choose the best pasture for the herd at the right time.”

“As a bit of a skeptic, I also compared Pasture.io measurements with readings from a plate meter and was surprised by how closely they matched.”

Seeing benefits on farm

Eric believes his swards have become more productive during his first season using Pasture.io. He also reports seeing more feed grown and more milk produced with the same number of cows.

“The financial benefits are becoming clear as well: we have grown more feed and produced more milk with the same number of cows.”

These are Eric’s observations from his own farm. As he builds his records, he hopes the information will help him make better-informed, more profitable decisions in the years ahead.

Support while learning

As Eric continues learning what Pasture.io offers, he values the support available along the way.

“After just six months of use, Pasture.io has become a valuable tool on our farm. The support has been excellent, including the help menu, AI assistance, and personalized, farm-specific guidance.”

“For farmers serious about improving pasture management, Pasture.io is a valuable tool in the right direction.”
